The Benedictine monastery of Montserrat sits 725 metres above the Llobregat River, anchored to a massif of rounded conglomerate pillars that rise like organ pipes from the Catalan plain. The mountain itself is a natural park, laced with hermitages and trails that thread through formations named for their silhouettes — the Mummy, the Elephant, the Sentinel.
